Confidentiality
Everything discussed in therapy is confidential. There are two exceptions required by law:
Mandatory reporting — If there is reasonable suspicion that a child, dependent adult, or elder is being abused or neglected, I am required to report this to the appropriate authorities.
Duty to warn — If you communicate a serious, credible threat of harm to an identifiable person, I am required to take steps to protect that person, which may include notifying them or law enforcement (Tarasoff v. Regents of the University of California).
A full informed consent document covering all policies and procedures will be provided and reviewed before your first session.
